Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised the historic Bethune College in Kolkata for its contribution to women's education while addressing the college's 175th anniversary program.
The college, which started 175 years ago, has become a pinnacle of education today, Banerjee stated. She added that all the mystics of West Bengal have made a special contribution to this college. The Chief Minister also lauded the college's efforts to provide quality education to women from different backgrounds and its role in creating a conducive environment for their overall development.
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of education in empowering women and urged the college to continue its legacy of providing quality education to future generations of women.
The Bethune College was established in 1849 by social reformer and educationist John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune and is one of the oldest women's colleges in India
